
Batik itself is the result of a craft that has become part of the culture of Indonesia since centuries ago, especially in Java. The term "batik" supposedly originated from Javanese language "amba", meaning to write and "nitik" which means making a point. Optionally, the word "batik" refers to the techniques of making and dyeing fabric patterns by using color barrier material in the form of night (wax), which is applied over the fabric. In English, this technique is known as wax-resist dyeing.
This technique can be applied only on the material made from natural fibers such as cotton, silk, and wool. In Bali, batik craft industry began around the 1970s. The industry was pioneered among others by Krishna from Banjar Pande Ketut Tegeha, Village Batubulan, Sukawati - Gianyar, with cap-weaving techniques using manual loom known as Alat Tenun Bukan Mesin (ATBM).
